NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH REPORT FOR OLD BOLINGBROKE NOVEMBER 2021.

Once again Old Bolingbroke is very quiet for NHW.

Please do not become complacent .

Remember darker nights need greater protection for your home and property.

Don’t make your home a shop window .

Never leave presents or valuables in view for the would be criminals to break in and take .

Remember to close your curtains at night.

Let’s make it as difficult as possible to keep these intruders out and your property safe.

Make sure your security is up to date. If need be the Police will come out to advise you how best to protect your home and property.

Christmas Shopping.

Always be alert and aware when out Christmas shopping.

Keep wallets , purses and phones in a zipped pocket or bag .

Not in a back pocket.

When at a cash machine be aware who is around you.

Always cover the keypad with your hand and put you cash safely away immediately.

Never leave your shopping in your car for would be criminals to see and take.

Alway lock them away out of site in your car boot.

Scams.

This is the time of year when a lot of people are trying to sell items on E Bay  and other selling sites to cover their spending cost for the on coming Christmas festivities.

Lincolnshire Police are warning how fraudsters use face book to target the vulnerable or trusting people.

Scenario you post items for sale on Facebook Market Place .

You then receive a message saying someone from a different location is interested and will buy without seeing the item.

They then ask if you can pay the delivery charges which will be reimbursed on collection by the courier .

Never pay any money up front to cover delivery, packing or spurious costs.

If the buyer is genuine they can arrange their own courier to collect.

This has the added benefit if the item is damaged in transit it’s not your immediate liability.

Scammers and criminals target these sites.

Don’t allow anyone to rush you into doing anything quickly. Take your time to think things through.

If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Please be aware there are many more scams arriving daily / weekly.

Fraud. Police Advice.

We know fraud can effect anyone at any time and whilst Christmas is a time of giving

please be careful what you are giving and to whom.

Cross the fraudsters  off your Christmas List and make sure they get nothing this year.

Never Assume That Someone Is Who They Say They Are.

This is relevant of all types of fraud.

Check the company or bank websites.

Are you being asked for something these sites state you will never be asked for

( PIN numbers and card details or personal information.)

Keep Track Of Receipts And Confirmation From Emails For Online Purchases

.

If you receive a message about your parcel and you are unsure visit the site where you purchased your items from and check your parcel’s status there.

If buying a pet make sure you research who you are buying from and that they are the legitimate seller.

If you are concerned please contact Action Fraud Tel. 0300 1232040 or

I explained to him that we are a No Cold Calling Village and politely sent him on his way.

Remember this scheme was set up to protect our village from unscrupulous people.

House Names And House Numbers.
